Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the sushi rice

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. Cook the rice with water in a rice cooker or on the stovetop. Once cooked, let it rest for 10 minutes.
  3. In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold the mixture into the warm rice using a wooden spoon. Let the rice cool to room temperature.

Step 2: Prepare the fillings

  1. Slice the fish, cucumber, and avocado into thin strips. If using imitation crab, mix it with mayonnaise for extra flavor.

Step 3: Assemble the sushi rolls

  1. Place a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface and put a sheet of nori on top, shiny side down.
  2. Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, then spread a thin, even layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving about 2 centimeters of space at the top.
  3. Arrange your chosen fillings in a horizontal line across the middle of the rice.
  4. Carefully lift the edge of the bamboo mat and start rolling tightly, applying gentle pressure to shape the roll. Once rolled, press gently to seal.

Step 4: Slice and serve

  1. Use a sharp knife to cut the roll into even pieces. To prevent sticking, wipe the knife with a damp cloth between cuts.
  2. Arrange the sushi rolls on a plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  3. Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi for dipping.
